Is bamboo toilet paper better than trees?

There are lots of benefits to using bamboo toilet paper in favour of conventional toilet paper made from virgin wood pulp. From protecting the environment to saving water and animals habitats. Here is everything you need to know…

Q - Is bamboo toilet paper better than regular toilet paper?

A - The short answer is yes, absolutely! In fact, bamboo toilet paper is a better choice all-round than wood pulp toilet paper options. When compared with toilet paper made from virgin wood pulp, bamboo toilet paper comes out on top in every way. Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on the planet, reaching its maximum height in just four months, making it the most renewable source of material available. It also takes up less space than trees, and uses no fertilisers or pesticides. Due to their versatility and renewability, bamboo products have a much smaller environmental impact compared with other toilet papers.

Q - Is bamboo toilet paper softer than regular toilet paper?

A - Bamboo is fast-becoming a highly-prized material when it comes to luxury household items such as sheets, bathrobes and clothing. It’s super soft and durable, which is why it’s the perfect material source for toilet paper, too. Bamboo toilet paper is both soft and thick, giving you all the comfort and absorbency you need.

Q - What are some of the other benefits of bamboo toilet paper?

A - Pure Planet Club toilet paper is RV and septic-safe, BPA-free, recyclable and biodegradable. Plus it’s vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.

Q - Does bamboo toilet paper contain less chemicals than regular toilet paper?

A - Most regular toilet paper can contain dyes and as fragrances. Bamboo toilet paper, however, can be produced without the need for harsh chemicals such as dyes or fragrances, using either natural alternatives or none at all. This makes it a much better choice for the environment and for humans and animals too. In addition to this, trees which are used in the production of normal toilet paper rely on pesticides and chemicals for improved growth, impacting the natural environment even further.

Q - Does bamboo use less water to grow than trees?

A - Yes, absolutely. It takes around 37 gallons of water to make a single roll of conventional toilet paper made from virgin wood pulp. However, bamboo requires far less water than trees to grow. In fact, it is estimated that bamboo needs thirty per cent less water to grow compared with hardwood trees.

Q - Is bamboo better for our ecosystems than trees?

A - Bamboo’s fast growth rates mean that it is more commercially viable to harvest and replace in a smaller area, so there is no need to destroy ecosystems in order to grow it. Bamboo is also able to thrive in soils that are depleted of nutrients, enriching them in the process. It can also be treated like a farm crop without the need for fertilizing or heavy watering. It simply regrows quickly after being cut, much like grass does. Trees, on the other hand, do not re-grow, they have to be replanted each time they are felled.

Q - Does bamboo toilet paper create fewer emissions?

A Toilet paper created from bamboo releases approximately 30 per cent fewer greenhouse gases than toilet paper made from virgin wood pulp. This is just another reason why bamboo toilet roll, when responsibly sourced, is much more sustainable and eco-friendly than toilet toll made from virgin wood pulp.

Q - Is bamboo toilet paper a better choice when it comes to protecting animal species?

A - Yes. Panda habitat isn’t destroyed by the production of bamboo toilet paper. In fact, the species of bamboo used for household products such as toilet paper are not consumed by pandas at all. On the other hand, the use of trees to create normal toilet paper destroys many different habitats for animal species. So tree-free products are not only better for the planet because they are recyclable, they also pose less of a threat to animal species. When you buy bamboo toilet paper, you can rest easy knowing that your purchase is not damaging animal habitats.

Q - Does bamboo toilet paper break down faster than regular toilet paper?

A - Yes. Bamboo breaks down significantly faster than both toilet paper made from virgin pulp or recycled pulp. A sheet of bamboo toilet paper will promptly and naturally decompose after use, leaving no trace of its former existence on the planet or in pipes. Bamboo toilet paper breaks down easily in water, meaning that water will freely flow through pipes without clumps of toilet paper potentially blocking them up.

Q - Is bamboo toilet paper more expensive?

A - While bamboo toilet paper may be slightly more expensive than normal toilet paper, or recycled toilet paper, it’s worth paying a little extra for the quality of the product and the peace of mind you get knowing you are making the best choice you can for the planet.

Q - Does bamboo toilet paper come in more eco-friendly packaging?

A - As bamboo toilet paper is produced by environmentally conscious companies, such as Pure Planet Club, you are unlikely to find bamboo toilet paper with plastic packaging.  Sustainable packaging is one of the many benefits of using bamboo toilet paper – no trees are harmed and there’s no waste with single-use plastic wrapping.
