We all know that plastic pollution is a widespread problem, but there are plenty of ways to reduce your plastic use and swap out non-sustainable items for eco-friendly products in your own home.
One of the best ways to fight plastic pollution is to live by example and ensure the products you buy are produced with both ethics and the environment in mind. With every dollar we spend, we are making a choice about how we want the world we live in to be. And don’t forget to share your finds with friends and family; the more people who use sustainable home products, the bigger the difference we will see. Every action counts and small steps add up to create change in our world.
In The Bathroom
Recycled or bamboo toilet paper -
Buying eco-friendly toilet tissue is a no-brainer; it’s one item that every household uses and is a really simple way to do your bit for the environment. Our bamboo toilet paper is completely tree-free and plastic-free and comes in a box of 36 so it lasts for ages. Our recycled toilet tissue will be available soon too so watch this space! Bamboo and recycled toilet tissue are much better choices for the planet compared with conventional toilet paper.
Reusable beauty and personal products -
For just about every personal or beauty product you can think of, there’s a sustainable alternative. Replace cotton make-up removal pads with a reusable, washable face pad, reusable cotton swabs instead of single-use Q-tips or cotton buds, and our Pure Planet Club eco-friendly organic lip balms with compostable tubes instead of plastic tubes. Try shampoo and conditioning bars instead of liquid shampoo and conditioner that comes in plastic bottles, and biodegradable dental floss instead of plastic strips. Bamboo toothbrushes are another great alternative to plastic ones, which take hundreds of years to break down.
In The Kitchen
Benchtop compost bin -
If you live in a small space and don’t have a backyard, access to a large compost bin or community garden, a benchtop compost bin in the kitchen is perfect for stashing all your veggie peelings, coffee grounds and eggshells. Some councils offer basic compost bins for apartment dwellings for free, or you can purchase them for around $35 online.

Sustainable cleaning and storage products -
When it comes to cleaning and food storage, there’s a wide range of products available which offer excellent alternatives to disposables. From reusable dish cloths to compostable cling wrap, reusable mesh produce bags and silicone storage bags, to compostable bin liners and microfiber towels. Gently phase out old products and replace them with newer, more eco-friendly choices.
Eating and Drinking
Plates, cutlery and wraps -
Packed lunches are great, but when you multiply them by each person who packs a lunch each day, the amount of single-use plastic waste adds up quickly. Reusable lunch wraps are great for sandwiches, and get in the habit of keeping stainless steel cutlery in your bag or desk drawer to use instead of plastic cutlery. When picnicking or entertaining in the garden, use bamboo plates and linen napkins and tablecloths – so much nicer than plastic or paper!
Reusable drink bottles and cups -
Globally humans buy one million plastic bottles per minute. Not only does this plastic end up in landfill, in our rivers and oceans, and in other parts of our natural environment where it can cause damage, it also commonly contains BPA, a chemical found in plastic products that can leak into your water and other drinks. Stainless steel water bottles are fantastic whether you’re at home or out and about, and reusable coffee cups are another easy way to make a difference in your daily life by reducing a significant amount of single-use plastic waste.
